Tap-wired conversations show that the north Caucasus terrorist leader Doku Umarov was killed, said head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov, quoted by ITAR-TASS.

"For a long time we have been 99% positive that Umarov was killed during one of our operations, “ Kadyrov stated.

“Now there is evidence that he is actually dead, although we have not found his body, and we are searching for it," Kadyrov announced for three Russian federal TV stations.

Doku Umarov has claimed responsibility for several attacks on Russian civilians among which the deadly bombing of Moscow's Domodedovo Airport in January 2011, earning himself a media nickname of "Russia's Bin Laden".

On 3 February 2012, Umarov ordered his subordinates, in a video posted online, to halt attacks on the civilian population of Russia, while leaving military and security personnel as legitimate targets.
