Notorious Bulgarian MP Appears in Court Over ‘Dogan Case’

The former Bulgarian MP Hristo Biserov appeared in court as a witness in the case against Oktay Enimehmedov, who pointed a gun at the leader of the ethnic Turkish party last year.

Biserov failed to appear in court on several previous occasions, prompting the Sofia City Court's magistrates to order his compulsory summoning to the trial.

On January 19, 2013, police in Bulgaria detained 25-year-old Oktay Enimehmedov after he pointed a gun at the former leader of the liberal Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) Ahmed Dogan as he was delivering his resignation speech at a party conference in the capital Sofia.

In November, Biserov became involved in a scandal, which led to his political downfall. The court charged him on two counts - for money laundering and filing false income tax declarations.

Biserov refused to give any comments regarding both trials to journalists on Thursday.
