Ex-Bulgarian PM Rejects Reports of Support for ABV Project

Former Bulgarian Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, has firmly rejected speculations that he is in a secret partnership with ex-President Georgi Parvanov to topple the current government.

Walking in the building of the Parliament Wednesday, as lawmakers resume work for the first time after their month-long winter holiday vacation, Borisov labeled such reports rumors and nonsense.

He said his formerly ruling centrist and now opposition party Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party (GERB) was going to discuss Thursday their own ballots for the European elections in May.

Bulgarian MEP Ivaylo Kalfin made headline news one day earlier, after confirming that an alternative left-wing project will take part in the upcoming EU elections. The Alternative for Bulgarian Renaissance (ABV) movement of former left-wing two-term President Georgi Parvanov will endorse its own MEP candidates. Kalfin, a former Foreign Minister (2005-2009), is to head ABV's EU election list.

Key Bulgarian Socialist Party officials condemned Parvanov and Kalfin as "traitors."

Meanwhile, also on Thursday, Borisov reiterated that there will be reshuffles in the GERB leadership and details will emerge after the party's Congress on February 16.
