Greek children's charity Smile of a Child was given full custody of the Roma girl Maria, who was discovered in a Roma camp in Greece in October, local media reported.

The court in the town of Larissa has ruled in favor of the local charity organization on Tuesday, Greek Kathimerini announced.

The “blond angel” was found living in a Roma camp in October with a couple that had falsely declared being her biological parents.

Maria was removed from the camp after a prosecutor became suspicious that the family she was living with was not her own.

She was placed with the Smile of the Child charity as authorities, with the help of Interpol investigated whether she was a victim of child trafficking.

The investigation traced the parents of the girl, Sasha and Atanas Rusevi, to a Roma camp in Bulgaria. They explained that they had trouble supporting their large family and had given Maria to the couple in Greece for her well-being.

The Larissa court on Tuesday reckoned that it was in her best interest to remain with Smile of the Child, which will be granted full custodial rights.
