According to the preliminary data, in November 2013, the production index in Bulgaria's construction sector, calculated on the base of seasonally adjusted data, was 1.2% below the level of the previous month.

The preliminary data was released Friday by the Bulgarian National Statistics Institute, NSI.

In November 2013, work day adjusted data showed a decrease by 9.0% in the construction production, compared to the same month of 2012.

The index of production of civil engineering, calculated from the seasonally adjusted data, marked a decrease by 1.9% and the production of building construction - by 0.7%.

On an annual basis, in November 2013, the decrease of production in construction, calculated from work day adjusted data, was determined mainly from the negative rate in civil engineering, as well as in building construction, where a drop by 12.9 and by 5.8%, respectively, was registered.

According to the preliminary seasonally adjusted data, in November 2013, the turnover in retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles, at constant prices increased by 0.4% compared to the previous month.

In November 2013, the work day adjusted turnover in retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles, grew by 6.2% in comparison with the same month of the previous year.

In November, compared to the previous month the turnover increased in the 'retail sale of computers, peripheral units and software; telecommunications equipment' - by 2.9%; in the 'retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet' - by 1.9%; in the 'retail sale of audio and video equipment; hardware, paints and glass; electrical household appliances' - by 1.6% and in the 'other retail sale in non-specialized stores' - by 1.1%.

More significant growth was observed in the 'retail sale of computers, peripheral units and software; telecommunications equipment' - by 18.2%, in the 'retail sale of audio and video equipment; hardware, paints and glass; electrical household appliances' - by 15.1%; in the 'other retail sale in non-specialized stores' - by 10.7% and in the 'retail sale of textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods' - by 9.5%.

A decrease was observed only in the 'retail sale of automotive fuel' - by 3.0%.

Seasonal adjustment is a statistical method, which eliminates the seasonal component of time series and it is particularly suitable for long-term comparisons and analysis of the data.

Work day adjustment is an adjustment for variations in monthly data, caused by calendar effects, different number of calendar and work days in the month, and national holydays - for example the presence of more days off in May could contribute to the decline in the production in some activities.
