Venelina Gocheva, chief editor of Bulgarian 24 Chasa Daily has resigned from the Union of Publishers in Bulgaria.

The news was reported by the Bulgarian news agency BTA.

Prior to resigning, Gocheva was the chairman and a board member of UPB. She is the president of the Publisher's Editorial Board of Media Group Bulgaria Holding, the publisher of Trud Daily and 24 Chasa Daily, among others.

"The reason behind my decision to resign from UPB is the disunity of the media community, the conflicts among publishers, which do not protect professional problems, the emergence of a second ethical code," Venelina Gocheva commented for BTA.

"Our resignation from UPB is not unprecedented - the reputable Darik radio has also left the Association of Bulgarian Broadcasters (ABBRO), but continues to work on providing a normal professional environment for Bulgarian media," Gocheva elaborated.

According to Gocheva, the Media Group Bulgaria Holding will continue to observe the Bulgarian journalistic ethical code.

Media Group Bulgaria Holding notified the Union of Publishers in Bulgaria on 20 December that it will not be part of any publishing unions any longer.
