Michael Schumacher was going at the speed of "a very good skier" when he hit a rock and fell, footage from his helmet camera has shown.

Investigators probing the former F1 driver's accident said he was eight metres off-piste when he crashed, the BBC informs.

Prosecutor Patrick Quincy said he could not as yet estimate the 45-year-old's speed but said it was "not an important element of the investigation".

Investigator Stephane Bozon said it was not possible to estimate Schumacher's speed in terms of kilometers per hour, "but this was the speed of a very good skier on a slope which was not very steep."

Quincy ruled out problems with Schumacher's skis, which he said were almost new. The piste, or ski run, also appeared to be correctly marked according to French standards, he said.

The most successful F1 driver in history remains in a medically induced coma after suffering head injuries during a fall in the resort of Meribel at the end of December. -
