Is Siderov Liable, Immune, or Untouchable?

In his latest gaffe, the Ataka leader allegedly went as far as assaulting a policeman and a French diplomat – a woman for that matter, at the Varna Airport.

Once again, the ball is in the Prosecution's court. The Chief Prosecutor has immediately ordered an investigation, which could result in the lifting of Siderov's MP immunity. So far, so good.

Siderov has been indispensable in keeping the majority in Parliament for both the previous and the current government. Therefore, neither has dared to act upon his outbursts of madness. However, with each inaction, his immunity grew stronger – to the point where he feels untouchable.

With a fairly poor track record of following through on the nationalist's blunders, the Prosecution must finally prove that it can do its job properly. It has no other choice, when a foreign diplomat is among the victims.

On Monday, Romania's Supreme Court sentenced an ex-PM to 4 years in jail over bribery. We are not so sophisticated in Bulgaria, yet. All we ask is to see a madman be removed from a position where he can continuously humiliate the nation.
