Volgograd Lifts State of Emergency

The state of emergency introduced in the Volgograd region after the train station bombing on New Year's Eve has been lifted.

The "yellow" terrorist threat level remains in place and police have strengthened security measures, according to reports of the Focus news agency and RIA Novosti.

A a representative of Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations informed that Volgograd Governor Sergei Bozhenov had ordered that  the state of emergency be lifted as of January 4.

The southern Russian city of Volgograd was stricken by two deadly terror attacks in less than 24 hours.

The first explosion occurred on December 29 at 12:45 at a railway station.

The second blast hit a trolleybus on the morning of December 30.

The two bombings killed 34 and left 106 injured.
