Romanian Ambassador: UK Migrant Hysteria Reinvented Beckett

Romania's ambassador to London Ion Jinga has come out with a satirical piece denouncing the rhetoric against Romanian and Bulgarian migrants to the UK.

The so-called anti-migrant hysteria in Britain has reached a new height as all restrictions for EU workers were lifted starting January 1, 2014.

In a Huffington Post Blog article entitled "Waiting for Godot: Or, for Romanians to Come to the UK", Jinga likens the situation in the UK to that in the famous Samuel Beckett absurdist play.

The Romanian ambassador also confesses to contributing to the problem, by bringing his daughter and family friends to visit for Christmas.

On a more serious note, Jinga also adduces evidence to show that a Romanian migrant wave to the UK is far from being likely.

The Romanian diplomat sharply dismisses the anti-migrant rhetoric as "alarmist" and concludes that "with all this insulting media campaign against Romanians, the UK employers, too, will probably wait for Godot."

There has been regrettably no similar reactions on the part of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Bulgarian ambassador to London Konstantin Dimitrov.
