Trolleybus Deadly Blast - 3rd Bombing in 2 Months in Volgograd

Monday morning's dealdy explosion on a trolleybus in Volgograd is the third bombing in the southern Russian city in two months.

It comes less than six weeks ahead of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, which is located less than 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) from Volgograd.

At least 15 passengers on a trolleybus have been killed and another 23 injured un a new suspected terrorist attack in the Russian city of Volgograd on Monday morning.

The explosion comes a day after a suicide bombing in the city's railway station, which killed 17 people and injured scores of others.

In October, a bomber blew up a passenger bus in Volgograd, killing six people and wounding more than 30 others. Russian media reported that a female Islamist suicide bomber from the Russian region of Dagestan was responsible for that attack.

The latest explosion took place near a market in the city's Dzerzhinsky district on Monday morning.

The area has been cordoned off, and police and emergency services are at the scene.

Moscow is concerned militant groups could be ramping up violence in the run-up to the 2014 winter Olympic Games in the city of Sochi.

The Olympic venue is close to Russia's volatile north Caucasus region.

Volgograd lies about 900km (560 miles) south of Moscow, 650km north of the North Caucasus and 700km north-east of Sochi.
