The rule of law in Turkey is under serious threat by the government of embattled PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to opposition CHP party leader Kemal K?l?cdaroglu.

"The executive exerts ever more open and brutal pressure on the legislative and judicial powers in the country," said K?l?cdaroglu.

"Turkey is starting to exit the status of a state where the rule of law holds," stressed the CHP leader, as reported by Dogu Haber Ajansi.

Since last week, Turkey has been shaken by a high-profile corruption investigation that implicated cabinet ministers, forcing Erdogan to replace close to half of his cabinet.

The Turkish PM has stated that he sees the probe as a plot, influenced by foreign powers, to overthrow his government.

Reports of executive pressure over the investigation were published after an important prosecutor was removed from proceedings.

Thursday, K?l?cdaroglu commented that he sees the replacements in the Erdogan cabinet as both loyalists of the PM and representative of the influence of shady security and business structures over Turkey's politics.
