A working group created through an ordinance of Bulgaria's Interior Minister will contribute to the efficient and transparent use of financial aid for refugees.

In a Saturday interview, Interior Minister Tsvetlin Yovchev made clear that the working group would not be in charge of making concrete decisions on spending the money.

Yovchev, as cited by dnevnik.bg, informed that Bulgaria had received aid from the EU amounting to BGN 5.6 M, the remainder being due in early 2014.

He said that Bulgaria was to receive money under three funds, the current tranche of BGN 5.6 M being under the fund providing support for asylum seekers.

Bulgaria's Interior Minister added that the main beneficiaries of these funds had to be the State Agency for Refugees.

He explained that in some cases the Refugee Agency had had to make direct arrangements with companies. To illustrate his point, he added that the refugee center in Harmanli had had no power supply and sewage network and that there had been no time to organize a public procurement procedure and a potential appeal process.
