A majority 62% of Bulgarians believe that the anti-government protests have waned down, while 13 % share the contrary opinion, recent polls show.

Some 26% of people are confident that if the protests persist, the Socialist-led cabinet of PM Plamen Oresharski will ultimately resign, however 47% think the opposite.

The results are from a survey held by the polling agency Gallup International among 1012 adult Bulgarians in the period November 28 - December 5.

Nearly 22% of the polled are willing to participate in the anti-government protests, while 68% would not take part in the rallies.

Over 40% of respondents believe that the Oresharski cabinet should resign. 43% of people support the protests, while 44% disapprove of them.

These indicators speak of certain decline of public pressure after the end of the second wave of protests, sociologists commented.

The Bulgarian government and the President are trusted by 30% of the polled, still they have lost the trust of 60% of people. Parliament finished the year with 18% public confidence.

According to Gallup, if the elections were held now, the Bulgarian Socialist Party would receive 22.8% of the respondents’ votes, which is an increase of 1.4% compared to November.

Center-right GERB retains the same 18%.

The liberal party Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) comes next with 6.1%, followed by the recently established right-wing Reformist Bloc with 4.8%.

Almost one-third of respondents insist that Bulgaria should not accept Syrian refugees and all who have already been taken in must be ousted, while 43% share the view that Bulgaria needs to help refugees because they are escaping a military conflict.
