Bulgarian Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski is in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku on Tuesday, for the signing of the Shah Deniz-2 investment project.

Shah Deniz-2 will supply Bulgaria with up to 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually.

Oresharski will meet with the country’s President Ilham Aliyev. Prime ministers and ministers from Greece, Albania, Turkey, Georgia, UK, and Italy, and the EU Energy Commissioner will also attend the ceremony, reports Standartnews.

In September, Bulgargaz signed a deal with the Azeri consortium Shah Deniz for the supply of Caspian gas for a period of 25 years, starting 2019 at the earliest.

The Azeri gas is expected to come through the transatlantic line, which passes through Greece and reaches Italy.

This contract is the first real diversification of natural gas sources and the routes for its delivery to the Bulgarian market.
