Russian President Vladimir Putin was named the politician of the year for a third consecutive year, a survey of the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM) has shown.

A total of 32% of Russians chose President Putin as the politician that has ‘distinguished himself in the outgoing year’, the Kommersant daily informed.

The second place is shared by Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu and LDPR (Liberal Democratic Party) leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky with 6% each.

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, head of the Civil Platform party Mikhail Prokhorov and leader of the Communist Party of Russia (KPRF) Gennady Zyuganov shared the third place.

35% of all respondents were undecided.

"Some citizens are not interested in politics at all, and their number remains almost unchanged," FOM head Alexander Oslon said for Kommersant daily.

Sociologist Leonty Byzov, of the Russian Academy of Sciences commented that the top positions in the rating were once again taken by the political old-timers. According to the expert, "the stagnation in the political elites will last a long time".
