Bulgaria's State Agency for National Security (DANS) and the Interior Ministry have rejected rumors about an immediate threat of a terrorist attack.

"There is no information at present about the existence of an immediate threat to the population of a terror attack on the territory of the country," DANS said in a media statement on Saturday, commenting on publications published the same day hinting at a risk of an imminent attack on Bulgarian territory.

DANS assured that it was conducting routine operational and pre-emptive activities aimed at preventing terrorist activities in Bulgaria.

Responding to questions of journalists about wanted persons believed to be potential perpetrators of terror attacks in Bulgaria, Svetlozar Lazarov, Chief Secretary of the Interior, explained that "there have been no confirmed reports so far of the existence of an immediate threat of a terror attack."

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, the Chief Secretary of Interior insisted that the deadly Burgas bus bombing in July 2012 had altered the situation in Bulgaria and there was increased risk of terrorism.

"We are taking all possible measures with a view to the changed environment" he assured.
