Bulgaria's Parliament Speaker Encourages Exports to China

A number of Bulgarian goods can enjoy a more tangible presence on the Chinese market, according to Parliament Speaker Mihail Mikov.

Mikov attended Friday the opening of a business forum in the Sheraton hotel in the Chinese city of Chongqing.

To illustrate his point, Mikov argued that Bulgaria could boost the presence of domestic goods such as wines, rose oil, products of machine building, electrical engineering and electronics, on the Chinese market.

He drew attention to the fact that Bulgaria was an EU Member State and could therefore provide favorable customs conditions for joint production.

Mikov, as cited by the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency, also reminded that Bulgaria offered duty-free access to EU markets.

He cited Bulgaria's location as an advantage, adding that it offered a solution to a number of logistical problems which were often an obstacle for businesses.

He insisted that Bulgaria was successfully dealing with the challenges of the crisis and continued to offer the lowest tax rates in the EU.

Bulgaria's Parliament Speaker announced that the country would keep supporting the cultural partnership with China through the joint construction of cultural centers.

He went on to speak about the importance of boosting tourism, adding that a cooperation agreement had been signed with the Chongqing Tourism Development Equity Investment Fund to revitalize relations between the city and Bulgaria.

Mikov pointed out that Bulgaria offered excellent conditions for golf, spa, sea and mountain tourism.

He underscored that Cina was a leading commercial partner of Bulgaria in the region, adding that in 201 the trade volume with China had amounted to over 1/3 of the country's total trade volume with China, while exports had increased by 88%.

He expressed gratitude for the active policy of the Chinese government aimed at encouraging Chinese companies to boost their footprint in the region and in Bulgaria in particular.

Speaking on behalf of Bulgaria's government, he assured that Bulgaria would continue to encourage initiatives seeking to boost the cooperation between the two countries.

He drew attention to the China-Central and Eastern Europe Economic and Trade Forum held on November 26 in Bucharest, reminding that during the event, the Chinese Prime Minister had expressed the country's intention to double trade with countries in Central and Eastern Europe over the five years to come and to implement large infrastructure projects on their territory.

At the opening of the business forum in Chongqing, the Deputy Chair of the local parliament pointed out that in 2012 trade between China and Bulgaria had reached USD 1.9 B.

He went on to say that there were a number of opportunities for cooperation between Chongqing and Bulgarian provinces in spheres such as environment, energy, culture and tourism.
