The European Union needs to do more to attract the countries participating in the EU Eastern Partnership, according to Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Kristian Vigenin.

Tuesday Vigenin held a meeting with the ambassadors in Sofia from the other 27 EU member states to discuss current international developments.

"The European Union must continue to be commited and consistent in its policies towards its Eastern partners," said the Bulgarian top diplomat.

"We must intensify stimuli and dialogue to speed up the processes of transformation in those countries and to make their European choice natural and irreversable," stressed Vigenin.

End of November Ukraine, an Eastern Partnership member, decided to postpone signing an Association Agreement with the EU.

The Ukrainian government has argued that although it intends to pursue deeper European integration, the conditions of the treaty would prove unfavorable in the present situation.

"We must aim at a future signing of an Association Agreement with Ukraine, as well as a full implementation of the agreements with Moldova and Georgia," said Vigenin.

At the meeting, the Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs also reaffirmed Bulgaria's commitment to the EU membership of all countries in the Western Balkans.
