Police Start Dismantling Protest Camps in Kiev

Ukrainian police have begun dismantling protest camps in front of government buildings in Kiev.

Police were dismantling at least two protest sites and forcing protesters out of two streets where, according to the Interior Ministry, they were blocking access to administrative buildings.

The ministry said no action was being taken on the central Independence Square.

Demonstrators are now putting up additional barricades on the square, the BBC reports.

Thousands of protesters in Kiev have built a tent camp in Independence Square and barricaded a number of important state buildings in an attempt to stall the work of the government as part of ongoing rallies to demand snap elections and the resignation of President Viktor Yanukovych.
