Bulgaria's Exports to EU Up 9% Y/Y in Jan-Sept 2013

Bulgaria's exports to the EU in the period January-September 2013 increased by 9% compared to the corresponding period of 2012, reaching BGN 19.5 B, according to preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute (NSI).
Bulgaria's main trade partners were Germany, Italy, Romania, Greece and France, which generated 68% of the exports to EU Member States
In September 2013, Bulgaria's exports to the EU went up by 15.8% on the year, reaching BGN 2.5 B.
Bulgaria's imports from the EU in the period January-September 2013 increased by 2.5% from the same period in 2012, reaching BGN 22.2 B at CIF prices. The biggest value was generated by goods imported from Germany, Italy, Romania, Greece and Spain.
In September 2013, Bulgaria's imports from EU Member States went up by 18.5% on the year, reaching BGN 2.8 B at CIF prices.
Bulgaria's foreign trade balance (export FOB – import CIF) with the EU for the period January-September 2013 was negative, at BGN 2 705.7 M.
At FOB/FOB prices (after eliminating transport and insurance costs on imports), the balance was also negative, at BGN 1 687.0 M.
In the first nine months of 2013, compared to the corresponding period of 2012, the biggest increases in exports to the EU were registered in the segments of "animals and vegetable oils, fats and waxes" (24.0%) and "non-alcoholic beverages and tobacco" (23.9%) (based on the International Trade Classification).
A decline by 7.9% was registered in the exports of "mineral fuels, lubricants, and related materials."
As regards Bulgaria's imports from the EU, the biggest increase by 10.7% was registered in the segment of "crude materials, inedible (except fuel)", while the biggest decrease by 2.1% was reported in the segment of "machinery and transport equipment".
