Jordan will replace Saudi Arabia as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, starting January 1.
In October, Saudi Arabia unprecedentedly turned down a non-permanent seat, accusing the Security Council of failing to deal with the Syria crisis and using double standards in its mechanisms.
Jordan was elected with 178 votes from the 193-member UN General Assembly, reports Euronews.
The other non-permanent members starting 2014 will be Nigeria, Chad, Chile, and Lithuania.
