A new report has predicted that at least 385,000 Romanians and Bulgarians will move to Britain over the next five years.

According to The Telegraph, the report by the Democracy Institute warns that the British Government is to blame for the “mess” of migration describing the flood of new arrivals as a “self-inflicted economic migrant own goal.”

Of the estimated 77,000 migrants arriving each year the majority – 44,000 – will be from Bulgaria, the poorest country in the EU, according to the report.

A total of 33,000 people will arrive each year from Romania, the think-tank believes.

January 1 2014 is the expiration date of the seven-year transition period after Bulgaria and Romania's EU accession to the bloc, in which the other EU member states could limit Bulgarians and Romanians' access to their labor markets.

No EU member state can unilaterally extend the existing labor market restrictions for Bulgarians and Romanians beyond the end of 2013.
