Bulgaria's Interior Minister Tsvetlin Yovchev revealed that the security zone around the Parliament building will remain as long as the protests continue.

"As long as there are citizens who attempt to attack MPs, to break into the Parliament building, and disturb the public order, we will have to keep the security zone", Yovchev told the daily Trud.

The Interior Minister claims that the anti-government protests which started in June are illegal, in that they disturb the public order.

"Whichever point of view we take, it is not possible to blame the Interior Ministry. We are not the ones who create this situation, in which the Parliament building has to be protected. It is only our duty to protect municipal property", added Yovchev.

On Wednesday, the Interior Minister stood behind the actions of the police during the violent clashes from November 12. He outlined that the authorities had acted in accordance with the situation, in which rioting factions had attempted to break past the metal fences and disobeyed orders.
