The Bulgarian State Agency for National Security (DANS) and the National Revenue Service (NRA) are probing former PM, Boyko Borisov, and his ex-girlfriend Tsvetelina Borislavova.

The information was reported Thursday by Chief Prosecutor, Sotir Tsatsarov, who said the probe is for financial crimes.

Tsatsarov explained his office was acting on a tipoff against the two and has sent the information to DANS and NRA.

He refused to offer any details on grounds of confidentiality and not wanting to impede the probe.

In a recent interview for Nova TV, banker Tsvetelina Borislavova, who is one of the wealthiest Bulgarians, informed of a probe of her business going ten years back. She said she has sent a written request to the NRA Director to obtain answers as of who had ordered the probe and on what grounds.

In a diplomatic cable of the US embassy in Sofia, dated May 5, 2006, which was revealed on WikiLeaks and provided to the project for investigative journalism www.bivol.bg, former American Ambassador, John Beyrle, wrote the following about her: "common-law wife, Tsvetelina Borislavova, manages a large Bulgarian bank that has been accused of laundering money for organized criminal groups, as well as for Borisov's own illegal transactions."

Borislavova and the former Prime Minister separated before him winning the general elections in 2009, but are known to be on very friendly terms.
