Protests in the Ukrainian capital Kiev have continued on Wednesday, when around 5 000 people gathered outside the Cabinet of Ministers.

Opposition leaders Vitali Klitschko, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, and Oleg Tyagnibok hoped to meet with government officials to ask them to reconsider signing the EU Association Agreement, but were unsuccessful at gaining entry, reported the Voice of America.

Ukraine made the decision on the EU deal last week, saying it could not afford to break ties with Moscow, as Russia tries to bring Kiev into its own customs union.

Several rallies in Kiev and other major cities have been held over the last few days.

The signing of the association agreement had been set for November 29 at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius.

Several other ex-Soviet states are expected to forge closer ties with the EU.
