The 35-year-old Syrian man, who passed away on Thursday morning, at a refugee center in Sofia, has died of heart attack, doctors said.

The man arrived at the Military Ramp refugee center on November 15, together with his wife and three children. They have been moved out of the center following the recommendation of psychologists.

According to the other refugees at the center, the man has been suffering from cardiac problems and complained of feeling pain in his chest over the last few days.

Following the young man's death, scores of refugees, accommodated at a camp in the Bulgarian capital Sofia, staged a spontaneous protest against the harsh conditions there.

Units for combating public unrest arrived at the scene, as well as the director of the State Refugee Agency Nikolay Chirpanliev.

Tensions subsided only after representatives of the Syrian community in Bulgaria called on the protesters to calm down, but media reports say the calm won't last long and the storm will be soon here again.
