Bulgarian Occupiers to Honor International Students' Day

Students who have occupied Sofia University have called a small rally in front of the Bulgarian Parliamenet Sunday to honor International Students' Day.

Launched some three weeks ago, the controversial occupation has demanded the resignation of Bulgarian PM Plamen Oresharski and the dissolution of parliament.

Students have also raised slogans against what they see as lack of morality in Bulgarian politics and lack of solidarity in Bulgarian society.

In their statement for the Sunday event, scheduled for 11 am, the students recall the violent events November 17, 1939 at Prague's Charles University and November 17, 1973 at the Athens Polytechnic - both times when occupying students were violently crushed by the army.

Bulgarian students stated that the rally Sunday will give them a chance to look back into history and honor those who fell in the fight for their ideals.

Tuesday this week, occupiers walked out of the University to stage a rally in front of Parliament, where they clashed with riot police.
