Russian authorities have confirmed that Pussy Riot member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova has been transferred to a prison in Siberia.

In a short statement on its website, the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service said Wednesday that Tolokonnikova had arrived at a facility in the Krasnoyarsk territory and that relatives had been informed of the move in accordance with the law.

The announcement ends a month-long speculation about the band member’s whereabouts.

Tolokonnikova was transferred out of a penal colony in the Russian republic of Mordovia almost one month ago after launching hunger strikes in protest at the conditions of her detention, RIA Novosti reminds. Authorities declined to inform relatives and colleagues where she had been taken, prompting widespread outrage.

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and two other band members were sentenced to two years in jail last year, after staging an anti-Vladimir Putin protest in a Moscow cathedral. In the song they implored the Virgin Mary to "throw Putin out".

They were charged with “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred.”

One member, Yekaterina Samutsevich, was released on appeal in October.
