On Tuesday, the ruling majority turned the "National Assembly" square in a gladiator arena and bloodied the unarmed peaceful protest of Bulgarian students, says the formerly-ruling, opposition center-right party GERB.

The declaration of Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party (GERB) was read in plenary hall Wednesday by GERB lawmaker, Tsveta Karayancheva.

The declaration stresses that the State machine has staged against the nation's elite people in uniform with helmets, shields and batons while in the Parliament the ruling majority was practicing rhetoric against violence, xenophobia and vandalism.

"Police and gendarmerie were sent to guard civil peace with batons and kicks. Under our windows, colleagues, our children were shoved, struck, beaten and arrested. And these shameful for democracy footage of inexplicable fury circled newscasts and international agencies," said Karayncheva.

She accused Prime Minister Oresharski of sugarcoating before foreign media how he freed the country from fear and has boosted investment activity, while on the square outside the Parliament, the erosion of confidence in the ruling majority reached the point beyond which processes became irreversible.

"How long will you remain blind and deaf, dear rulers, to the anger of the oppressed, who are rallying on the streets for more than 150 days, and say your names with disgust. If you still have conscience and some shame - resign and leave!" stated the GERB MP.

She further accused the rulers of pushing Bulgarian people to the brink of the abyss and of cynically watching citizens' resistance to their hunger for power. Karayancheva pointed out that no force will subdue Bulgarians now.

The Parliamentary group of GERB declared emphatic opposition to physical attacks against peaceful protesting Bulgarian citizens, whose only demand was the human right to make a choice. The opposition demanded that the leadership of the Ministry of Interior and Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Tsvetlin Yovchev, immediately appear in person in the Parliament to explain from the parliamentary tribune what had prompted the massive assault staged by police forces and their aggressive behavior.

"For 45 years an obscurantist communist regime fed us with myths and cynically persuaded us that power is taken and given with blood. And since in only months, the power of the Socialists and their coalition turned totally discredited, make no mistake, power cannot be defended with iron fences and batons. Resignation of the government is the only useful move for the country at this time. Lift your hands from the student protest; do not become usurpers and dictators, and do not disgrace our country. Everything else is a form of cynicism and betrayal of our children. The only and best thing you can do is to resign immediately," Karayancheva concluded.

She added that her parliamentary group was in plenary hall, "to not allow the left-wing Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, and its partners, the liberal, predominantly ethnic Turkish party Movement for Rights and Freedoms, DPS, and the nationalist Ataka to "quietly" pass the State budget.

"We are here to debunk the myth of your "social budget," Karayancheva stated.
