Bulgaria should expect a few more immigration waves in the coming months, says the Deputy Director of the Interior Ministry's Directorate "Migration," Commissar Yotko Andreev.

Andreev explained that the refugee wave from Syria was not the biggest problem in Bulgaria as only about 55% of immigrants who cross the border are refugees from there. The rest are people from other countries who want to settle in the European Union and Bulgaria is not their final destination.

According to him, the influx of illegal immigrants is actually attributed mainly to Algeria, Afghanistan and Iran while an increase in the number of those who come from Mali and Rwanda has been recently registered.

"The country repatriates between 700 and 800 illegal immigrants each year. This number could be much higher if we had more resources and greater cooperation from the countries of origin," said Andreev.
