Protesting Bulgarian Students Stage PM's Resignation

Protesters in Bulgarian capital Sofia have staged a performance depicting the resignation of embattled PM Plamen Oresharski.

Sunday, the 24th anniversary of the fall of the communist regime in Bulgaria, thousands walked out in protest against the perceived lingering corruption and lack of morality in Bulgarian politics.

The rally is a culmination of June and July anti-cabinet protests, and an occupation started by students at Sofia University end of October.

The march assembled in front of the main building of Bulgaria's oldes and most prestigious institution of higher learning and then marched to the nearby House of Parliament.

There, a protester masked as PM Oresharski officially deposited a "resignation", whereby another protester, dressed in the Bulgarian colors and personifying the country, was unchained.

Other ralliers chose a less well-meaning gesture, burning zombiefied images of the PM.

Main road arteries in the Bulgarian capital have also been blocked by the rally, which has trickled into the afternoon.

Interior Ministry Chief Secretary Svetlozar Lazarov has said that police have information that violence might be sparked as the evening falls.
