A massive typhoon in the Philippines has killed over 100 people and left thousands homeless.

The typhoon Haiyan was one of the strongest ever on record, with winds surpassing 300 km/h. The number of casualties is feared to be much higher, reports Euronews.

The storm flattened houses, tore down trees, cut power lines, and caused landslides. Waves of up to 5 meters hit some of the coastal regions, flooding streets and homes.

Cebu, the country’s second largest city, was one of the most effected.

The military has begun relief efforts. The EU is also preparing to send a humanitarian mission to the Philippines.

Typhoon Haiyan is expected to pass over the South China Sea, heading to Vietnam, Laos, and China.
