Bulgaria's Ruse and Romania's Giurgiu have started building a road under pan-European Transport Corridor #9.

Construction works in Romania's Giurgiu Municipality started on Monday, while the construction works in Bulgaria's Ruse are yet to start.

The total budget of the project is EUR 6.790 M and it is to be implemented in 30 months, according to the BGNES news agency.

The project titled "Improving the Accessibility of Euroregion Ruse-Giurgiu with Pan-European Transport Corridor #9" is implemented under the Bulgaria-Romania Cross-Border Cooperation Program for the period 2007-2013.

The project aims to improve transport infrastructure and optimize the coordination of traffic in the trans-border zone.

The Tutrakan Blvd in Ruse, which connects Danube Bridge with the city, is to be upgraded, and a connecting road with the central part of Giurgiu and the customs' office is to be built.

Under the project, utility grids will be reconstructed and rehabilitated, and the road surface will be repaired and expanded.

A joint system for collecting, processing and exchanging information will be developed, which will allow better traffic management in order to prevent traffic jams and traffic accidents.
