Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry Recommends Postponing Travel to Egypt

Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry has recommended postponing travel to Egypt in the period November 1-5 due to an anticipated escalation of tensions.

The press office of the Foreign Ministry cites reports of Bulgaria's Embassy in Cairo about mass protests scheduled to take place during the period and a high likelihood of massive riots breaking out.

The Foreign Ministry recommends Bulgarian citizens residing in key administrative centers in Egypt to limit their movement, adding that people intending to travel to Egypt are advised to postpone their trip, if possible.

On Friday, gunmen opened fire on a five-star Cairo hotel located on the road to the pyramids. There were no casualties.

A Spokesperson for the Interior Ministry announced that the shooting had been an act of revenge by dismissed hotel workers.

The assault comes at a time when Egypt is receiving very few tourists over fears of an escalation of violence.

Egypt has been plagued by shooting and bombing attacks since the military's overthrow of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi in July and the ensuing bloody clashes between his supporters and opponents.
