Bulgaria’s Pironkova Defeated by Ivanovic in Sofia

Bulgaria’s Tsvetana Pironkova started dismally her participation in the WTA Tournament of Champions, losing 0:6, 2:6 to former world number one, Ana Ivanovic.

Despite the home support in Sofia’s Arena Armeec, Pironkova was far from her best form as the Serbian took full charge.

After the match, Ivanovic stated that she had not expected the match to end this quickly.

In the other matches of the opening day, Simona Halep defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6:3, 6:3, while Maria Kirilenko pulled out of the match against Alize Cornet at 0:5 due to an injury.
