Protesters in the Turkish capital Ankara have clashed with police in connection with the trial of a policeman charged with the killing a demonstrator in June.

Massive protests against PM Recep Erdogan's government were going on in Istanbul and several other cities during much of the summer. In total, 6 people including a policeman died during the unrest.

A crowd of around 2 thousand demonstrators gathered outside the court in Ankara, angered by the judge's ruling that the accused policeman could take part in the hearing via video link, reported Euronews.

Riot police intervened, using water cannon and tear gas to disperse the crowd. Several demonstrators have been injured.

The initial protests began at the end of May, over government plans to redevelop Gezi Park in Istanbul's Taksim district.

The rallies spread to other cities, and thousands took to the streets to voice their anger over PM Erdogan's policies.
