Bulgarian Constitutional Court chair Dimitar Tokushev has stated he has no worries about a recent court's decision that reinstated controversial media mogul Delyan Peevski as MP.
This week, the early October decision provoked an occupation of the central building of Sofia University, where Prof. Tokushev teaches law.
Peevski's June 14 appointment by Parliament for chair of Bulgaria's State Agency for National Security provoked massive protests and his resignation a day after.
But then the legal quanundrum arose as to whether he can return to work as MP.
"Parliament washed its hands on the Peevski case by transfering the decision for his MP rights to the Consitutional Court," said Tokushev in an interview for bTV Saturday.
MPs from opposition GERB party had filed a request with the Constitutional Court to terminate Peevski's MP rights, which the court decided it had no reason to do.
In the interview, Tokushev said that he had nothing to explain regarding this decision, as it has been published in its entirety on the institution's website.
The Sofia University occupation started during a regular lecture Tokushev was about to hold, when students entered asking him to explain the Constitutional Court's decision.
"I have worked at the Constitutional Court for seven years now. During that time no political person or organization has made an attempt to influence us. But during the last day the court and its chair are finding themselves under pressure," said the lawyer.
