The town hall of Bulgarian capital Sofia has opened two crisis centers for the homeless with the inception of the colder months, announced mayor Yordanka Fandakova.

The two centers will be able to house 170 people total, said the mayor.

One of them, a 70-capacity unit, was also working during last year, but the remaining places are in a new center.

The facilities will be functioning from mid-November until the end of March next year.

The Sofia town hall has allotted some BGN 0.2 M for their running, said Fandakova.

Part of the reason for expanding the facilities' capacity is the influx of asylum seekers, in particular people from Syria, into Bulgaria, according to the Sofia mayor.
