The Republic of Dagestan's Ministry of Interior will assist in the investigation of Monday's terrorist attack on a bus in the Russian city of Volgograd.

Earlier, Russian investigation revealed 30-year-old Naida Ahiyalova from Dagestan as the suspected suicide bomber of the bus, which killed at least 5 people. She is the wife of Dmitryi Sokolov, a militant leader of an organized group. Ahiyalova had recently adopted Islam.

Dagestan is an autonomous republic in the North Caucasus region, and a part of the Russian Federation. It is ethnically very diverse, with no particular group constituting a majority.

For over a decade, it has been the scene of Islamic insurgency, ethnic tensions, and occasional outbreaks of separatism.

Suicide attacks carried out by two women from Dagestan on Moscow metro stations in 2010, left 39 dead and 128 injured.
