Bulgarian Prime Minister Oresharski has appointed Friday Prof Plamen Mollov for Executive Director of the Food Safety Agency.

Mollov has been nominated by the Minister of Agriculture, Prof Dimitar Grekov, the press office of the Council of Ministries informs.

The former Executive Director of the Food Safety Agency Ventseslava Taseva - Sokolova was reappointed as Deputy Executive Director of the Agency.

Mollov has an engineering degree from the Higher Institute of Food Industries in Bulgaria's second largest city of Plovdiv. He has specialized in the Institute of Physics and Chemistry at the Academy of Sciences, BAS, the Research Institute of Wines and Beverages in Geisenheim, Germany, the Ghent University in Belgium, the Agricultural University in Wageningen, The Netherlands, the University in Barnemat and the University in Grimsby, UK.

Since 1997, Mollov has a PhD, and is a professor since 2009.

The very first Director of Bulgaria's Food Safety Agency, Yordan Voynov, resigned in April, 2013 amidst suspicions of irregularities in contracts for border safety control.

The Agency was established at the beginning of 2011.
