Break-In Attempt Reported at Russian Residence in The Hague

Dutch police authorities are investigating an attempted break-in at a building in The Hague where employees of the Russian Embassy live.

Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans apologized on October 18 for the incident, which occurred late on the previous evening, Radio Free Europe informs.

Dutch media report the building was not part of Russia's diplomatic mission but was home to an unspecified number of Russian Embassy personnel.

This is the latest in a series of incidents that have triggered tensions between Russia and the Netherlands.

Earlier this week, two men posing as electricians assaulted a Dutch diplomat in his Moscow apartment.

The relations between Russia and the Netherlands were strained by the brief detention of a Russian diplomat in The Hague earlier this month, for which the Netherlands apologized, and by Russia’s September seizure of a Dutch-registered Greenpeace ship in the Arctic and arrest of all 30 people on board.
