Bulgaria could get a newly built football stadium as a German sport facility construction company plans to invest EUR 40M for a new sport facility in Sofia.

“IFS” , a German sports facility construction and operation enterprise announced a EUR 40 M investment in a new football stadium/

The facility will be operated by the company in partnership with local Bulgarian clubs CSKA and SLAVIA.

“This is our first investment in Eastern Europe and we want to show that a construction of a brand new stadium can be funded solely by a private investment”, said “IFS” Managing Director, Claus Binz at a presentation of the investment plan on Wednesday, as cited by Dnevnik.

Construction should start no later than six weeks, otherwise the funding that is already available for this particular stadium will be used to finance another project, pointed out the director.

“Sofia National Stadium” is scheduled to be completed in 2015, according to project information available on “IFS” corporate website.

“Bulgarian Football Union” is the client, CSKA and SLAVIA teams will be home tenants, informs the company’s website.

The new stadium with a capacity of 25 000 will be build in Sofia’s “Ovcha Kupel” neighborhood and it will replace the old “Slavia” stadium.
