Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev and Croatian counterpart Ivo Josipovic launched Tuesday a joint Bulgarian-Croatian business forum in Sofia.

The event is part of Josipovic's two-day official visit to Bulgaria, which started Monday.

Business and cultural relations between the two countries are high on the agenda in bilateral discussions.

"Someo 23 years ago, we were developing our economies unilaterally. Now eve believ that our economies can develop well only when it balances on more than one foundation," said Bulgarian President Plevneliev.

According to him, cooperation between Bulgaria and Croatia, as well as with other countries from the region, could give better opportunities for every one of them to reach out outside markets, such as those in the Middle East and East Asia.

On his part, Croatian President Josipovic stressed that business relations between his country and Bulgaria are still well below their potential.

"In 2012, trade exchange between Bulgaria and Croatia even dropped by 7%," recalled Jospiovic.

The head of state presented the efforts of the Croatian government to better the business climate in the country, in particular by lowering the adminsitrative burden.

During discussions, the areas of transportation, construction, energy, tourism and food industry were singled out as especially promising for deeper cooperation.
