Less than 24 hours after being appointed as head coach of Bulgaria's Levski Sofia, Ivaylo Petev resigned.

Petev was unveiled as Levski's new coach on Tuesday, but a mob of angry fans stormed the press conference and attacked him, stripping his team jersey. They said he was not worthy of wearing the shirt, since he had expressed sympathy for rivals CSKA in an interview a few years ago.

Following the embarrassing incident, Levski's CEO Nasko Sirakov and sporting director Ivo Tonev also stepped down.

It is still unknown who will take charge of Levski ahead of the team's derby against CSKA on October 19.
