Trakia Economic Zone near Bulgaria's Plovdiv to Attract Investments of over EUR 1B

Eight Bulgarian municipalities have signed an agreement to jointly develop the new Trakia economic zone through public-private partnership.

Plamen Panchev, Chair of the Board of Directors of Sienit Holding, presented information about the Trakia economic zone at the conference "National Strategies for Industrial and Agricultural Restructuring" held as part of the ongoing International Technical Fair in Plovdiv.

Panchev announced that the industrial zones around Bulgaria's southern city of Plovdiv had absorbed investments of over EUR 1 B in over 60 big companies which created 12 000 jobs.

He explained that the Trakia economic zone would include existing zones which had been built over the past 15 years and ones which were under construction.

Panchev said that the Trakia economic zone would have a total area of 10.7 million square meters, adding that it was expected to attract new investments of EUR 700-800 M and provide 30 000 jobs.

He specified that the Trakia economic zone included the industrial complexes in the municipalities of Kuklen, Rakovski, and "Maritsa", the new agricultural center in Kaloyanovo, the new projects for an industrial zone with a hi-tech park in Kaloyanovets and the "Education and hi-tech" park in Plovdiv.

He noted that the project was expected to give a boost to the industrialization of the region, the development of agriculture, integration of minorities and stimulate employment.
