Two individuals have been arrested Thursday in the brazen bank robbery in the northwestern Bulgarian city of Vratsa.

The news was reported Friday by the Vratsa Prosecutor's Office.

A third individual, believed to be a former policeman, is still at large. A nationwide search warrant has been issued for him.

The two arrested have been already charged with large-scale robbery. One of them has a criminal record and is, most likely, to remain behind bars.

The robbery took place at around 7.10 pm on Tuesday.

Two armed and masked men attacked a bank employee who had just gotten off an armored collection vehicle and was trying to place a bag of money into an external vault of an office of International Asset Bank.

The robbers snatched the bag of money and ran away.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

Police arrived at the site immediately and the area was sealed off.

The Vratsa-based bank office is currently undergoing repairs.

International Asset Bank processes Social Assistance Agency payments.

bTV cites own police sources saying the two have been apprehended immediately after the robbery.

The prosecution further informs that the amount of the stolen money was BGN 90 000, but it remains unclear if it has been recovered.
