Former Bulgarian Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, has blasted Friday plans of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) to lift the full smoking ban in enclosed public places.

Borisov, who is the leader of the formerly-ruling, opposition center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, stated for media in the parliament's hallway that he firmly supported the full smoking ban, stressing Bulgaria tops the rankings for cancer sufferers.

"This law was one of the best and most progressive acts of my government and they now want to wreck it as everything else," said he.

Borisov stressed that contraband was currently flourishing in the country; the Customs Agency was idle, and no one was collecting revenues.

"They lie to people every day that they will increase income, give them some money – assistance for mothers with young children, Christmas bonuses for retirees, and so on... Where from as there are no revenues? From the loans they are taking and which we all will have to repay," concluded Borisov.
