Sofia Gears for 30th Annual Marathon

The annual Sofia Marathon will take place this Sunday in Bulgaria's capital.

Over BGN 40 000 will be the prize pool for Sunday's Sofia Marathon. Winners in the men's and women's competition will each receive BGN 5 000, reports the daily Trud.

This is the 30th anniversary of the marathon, with runners from numerous countries expected to participate. There will be 4 separate distance routes, 3km, 6km, 18km, and the classic 42.195km.

Over 3 000 runners are expected for this year's edition. Those who would like to take part can register until Saturday on the competition's official website (http://en.maratonsofia.com/).

The event is organized by the Sofia Municipality, the Bulgarian Olympic Committee and the Bulgarian Athletics Federation.
