If Bulgarians went to the polls in general elections today, the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) would summon the largest number of supporters, followed by the former ruling center-right party Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB), according to a survey of the Gallup International polling agency conducted in September.

BSP is supported by 22.4 % of Bulgarians, GERB by 19.1 %, the liberal Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) by 5.9%, and nationalist party Ataka by 2.7%, according to Gallup International's Political and Economic Index for September, as cited by BGNES.

The number of supporters of the mass anti-government protests, which have been going on for over 100 days, is nearly equal to the number of pro-government oriented people, according to Gallup.

The polling agency informs that the protests against the socialist-led coalition government of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski are backed by 45%, while 44% of the respondents back the Cabinet.

Public confidence in BSP increases by 1% in the period July-September.

In September 2013, BSP leader Sergei Stanishev enjoys the trust of 27% of the respondents, while GERB leader Boyko Borisov is backed by 22%.

The new right-wing formation The Reformist Bloc enjoys the approval of 6%, and nationalist parties Ataka and National Front for the Salvation of Bulgaria (NFSB) also retain chances of clearing the 4% threshold to enter Parliament.

The survey was conducted in the period September 12-19, 2013 among 1013 respondents aged 18+.
